The Allianz Arena in Munich features a smooth facade made of 2,874 inflated plastic cushions. These panels function like a chameleon and instantly change colors from red to blue or white to reflect the team playing inside. This innovative design transforms the stadium into a massive, glowing beacon that is visible all across the city. The transparent foil material also allows essential UV light to reach the grass pitch.

The Float @ Marina Bay

Singapore

This venue features a massive steel platform held up by pylons inserted directly into the floor of Singapore's Marina Reservoir. Designers built the platform to bear the weight of 9,000 people and military vehicles. The prime location offers a stunning skyline backdrop for matches played entirely over water. It uses rubber rollers to stabilize the pitch against strong tides and currents.

Sapporo Dome

Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan

Designers built the Sapporo Dome to withstand the region's heavy annual snowfall. The venue uses a Hovering Stage system to lift the 8,300-ton natural grass soccer pitch on top of a cushion of air. Once elevated, the pitch slides on wheels from the outdoors into the indoor arena. This allows the grass to grow in natural sunlight while a baseball field remains permanently inside the dome.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

The roof of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium moves like the aperture of a camera lens. Eight motorized triangular petals slide in unison to create an open-air feel. This complex kinetic system draws inspiration from the wings of a falcon — the mascot of the stadium’s NFL team, the Atlanta Falcons. The stadium is also home to the MLS’ Atlanta Unites and the NWSL’s newest expansion franchise, set to begin play in 2028.
