Amityville, New York

The Amityville Horror book and films are based on the horrific murders that took place at 112 Ocean Avenue in 1974. Ronald DeFeo Jr. shot and killed six members of his family at his family’s suburban home. Subsequent owners and visitors to the property claim they've been terrorized by numerous paranormal events, including mysterious voices and physical injury.

Villisca Ax Murder House

Villisca, Iowa

More than a century after eight people, including 6 children, were bludgeoned to death in the small town of Villisca, ghosts are said to still roam the small white house where the victims met their end. Visitors can tour the home and even spend the night for a chance to meet up with an otherworldly being.

The Sallie House

Atchison, Kansas

Former residents of this unassuming home say they've experienced paranormal activity, including flickering lights, apparitions, unexplained voices and physical harm. Legend points to the ghost of a young girl, Sallie, who is said to have undergone abdominal surgery in the house—without anesthesia—and died soon after.

Whaley House Museum

San Diego, California

In 1852, a thief named James Robinson was hanged in San Diego. Some years later, a house was built on the spot Robinson died in, and it’s said the criminal has haunted it ever since. Visitors say Robinson's ghost stomps around the house occasionally joined by the spirits of the couple who built the house on his death site. The museum is open for tours.

Twenty-two people who lived or died in an unassuming brownstone on West 10th Street in Manhattan are said to haunt the building. Among those is a 6-year-old girl who was killed by her adoptive father. Mark Twain, who visited the house in 1900, is said to pop in for a visit from time to time, as well.

Savannah, Georgia

In a town famous for its haunted houses, the Hampton Lillibridge stands out from the rest. Many folks met their deaths in the home, and neighbors claim to see ghostly figures in the windows.Observers also say they hear music and laughter from time to time. The home is thought to be cursed by an ancient crypt in its basement.

Old Arnold Estate - The Conjuring House

Burrillville, Rhode Island

The 2013 film The Conjuring was inspired by events said to have taken place at a house formerly known as the Old Arnold Estate. Extraterrestrial orbs and lights, the sounds of ghostly children playing and phantom animals are among the paranormal experiences said to occur at this place. A couple of ghosts, Abigail and Mathew, are also thought to roam the halls — tour the home and perhaps you will see them.
