Freshen Up Your Home’s Curb Appeal With These Ideas

If your curb appeal is less than appealing, don’t fret. There are plenty of options for a quick and easy refresh that will make your home stand out from all the Stepford homes on the block.

Swipe through for 7 ideas on how to freshen up your home’s curb appeal.

Have a look at your front porch. Are the handleset and lockset on your door looking dated? What about the house numbers; could they use a refresh? Maybe the light fixture has seen better days, and don’t forget the doorbell trim. You’ll be amazed at the transformation updating these simple items can bring.

Decorate your front porch with chairs—wicker, rocking or Adirondack are some options—and maybe a small side table. Arrange a potted plant or two on the table, and add an outdoor rug to finish off the look.

A big landscape makeover can be quite a chore, and if that’s not in the cards just yet, consider simply planting one tree. Choose carefully; look for one that does well in your area and is fairly low maintenance. Don’t plant it too close to the house to avoid limbs growing into the house as the tree grows.

Revitalize your home’s curb appeal by painting the front door. After years of use, it’s probably a bit scuffed up and worse from wear, anyway. Consider giving the door some pop by choosing a bright color that stands out from your house’s main color.

How about adding some window boxes? These traditional beauties add vibrant color and interest to the front of your house. Be sure to plant easy-care flowers, and don’t forget to water them.

You’re probably not aware of how dirty your house’s siding has become over the years, but it’s an easy problem to remedy with a thorough pressure wash. A neighbor might have a pressure washer you can borrow, or you can rent one. Be sure to wash the porch and any walkways, too.

If the front elevation of your home is rather flat, liven it up with some wall art. Obviously, the Rembrandt hanging in your living room doesn’t belong out there, but you’ll find plenty of art meant to withstand the elements. A large metal piece, for example, might look fabulous.
