Hot Weather, No Cook Dinners Kids Will eat

When your air conditioning is struggling to keep your house cool because the summer sun is still blazing, you might not want to turn the oven on.

Swipe through to get ideas for no-cook dinners even the kids will eat.

Peanut Butter Banana Sandwiches

For a dinner that almost every kid will cheer for, spread peanut butter on whole-grain bread and add sliced banana. Cut each sandwich into triangles or small squares. Serve alongside yogurt, berries and a handful of pretzels for a more complete meal. If peanut allergies are a concern, use sunflower seed butter or another allergy-friendly spread. A drizzle of honey is an optional sweet touch.

Chicken Caesar Pitas

Start with cooked rotisserie chicken and toss it with bagged Caesar salad, Parmesan and Caesar dressing. Stuff everything into mini pitas for an easy handheld dinner. Kids who aren't fans of salad can simply eat the chicken, cheese and pita separately. Serve with berries or sliced melon. Using rotisserie chicken and pre washed salad means the only real work is assembling the pitas.

Turkey Wraps

Put tortillas on the table with sliced turkey, mild cheese, avocado, shredded lettuce and thinly sliced cucumber. Let kids assemble their own wraps, which makes dinner more interactive and lets everyone skip anything they don't like. Add hummus or ranch for dipping and serve with grapes, apple slices or baby carrots. For extra flavor, spread the tortilla with cream cheese before adding the fillings.

Grazing Platter

Turn dinner into a giant snack plate with familiar favorites: cheese cubes, sliced turkey or chicken, crackers, cucumber rounds, baby carrots, grapes and apple slices. Add hummus, ranch or peanut butter for dipping. Kids can pick and choose what they want, while you get a surprisingly balanced meal without turning on the stove. Use cookie cutters to make fun shapes from cheese or deli meat.

Ham, Cheese and Apple Sandwiches

For a fun twist on the usual sandwich, layer thin slices of ham and mild cheddar between slices of bread (toasted if you can bear the heat), then add very thin apple slices for crunch and a touch of sweetness. Serve with grapes, cucumber slices and a yogurt dip. If your kids aren't adventurous enough for apples in their sandwich, serve the apple slices alongside instead. No cooking, no complaints and almost no cleanup.

Pizza Tortilla Roll-Ups

Spread flour tortillas with pizza sauce (room temperature straight out of a previously unopened jar is fine), sprinkle with shredded mozzarella and add sliced pepperoni. Roll them up tightly and cut into pinwheels. There's no cooking required, and they're easy for little hands to eat. Set out additional toppings such as olives, diced bell pepper or pineapple for adventurous eaters.
