Visit these Spring Break Destinations For Adults

While college kids flock to places like Orlando, South Padre Island, Palm Springs and Coney Island for spring break, older adults might want a more sedate experience for their spring vacation. If you’re wanting to get away, but not get caught up in the madness, you’ll have no trouble finding a fun but calm experience.

Swipe through to learn about grownup spring break destinations.

Puerto Rico

Temperatures in the low 80s are comfortable, and the beaches are beautiful in much of Puerto Rico. Enjoy hiking, whale watching, history, and incredible food in this Caribbean Sea U.S. territory. San Juan is the territory’s capital and biggest city, but don’t miss smaller spots such as Aguadilla, Cabo Rojo and Ponce.

New York City

New York City is an incredible place all year, but spring is particularly nice. The snow is gone, the oppressive heat hasn’t yet set in and it’s a great time to explore the city’s parks and other outdoor attractions. Don’t miss the New York Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo and the High Line.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Punta Cana is a beautiful bit of beach undiscovered by the masses of spring breakers. Its clear waters are perfect for windsurfing, kayaking and sailing. Enjoy the area’s natural beauty as you hike nearby forests, listening for birds and spotting the many species of wildlife that populate the area.

Montreal

Grownups wanting a bit of European vibe without the expense of flying overseas will enjoy beautiful Montreal. Discover quaint neighborhoods as you stroll the streets. You’ll find spectacular gardens, enriching museums, incredible shopping and fantastic food—much of it free of spring-breaking college kids.

Crystal Coast, North Carolina

Beaufort and Emerald Isle are charming towns on North Carolina’s Crystal Coast, but they haven’t caught the attention of college-age travelers just yet. While typically serene, the coastline is occasionally enlivened by the wild horses that sometimes gallop along the shores of Shackleford Banks.

Amelia Island, Florida

Just 30 miles from Jacksonville, this barrier island is typically untouched by the college crowd. Stroll the historic downtown and comb the beach, looking for shells. Quaint bread and breakfast accommodations abound, and golfers will find several stunning courses to choose from. History buffs will enjoy a visit to Fort Clinch, a Civil War-era stronghold.

Ocean Springs, Mississippi

This quiet gem in coastal Mississippi is artsy and charming. For an afternoon in the sun, there’s a beach to enjoy, and when you feel like exploring, check out the walkable downtown area. You’ll find galleries, boutiques and fabulous restaurants. Stay at a campground or book a room at a hotel with floating rooms!
