Sept. 23 (UPI) -- First lady Melania Trump announced a global initiative to improve children's well-being through education, innovation and technology during the United Nation's 80th General Assembly on Tuesday.
The Fostering the Future Together initiative is to "ensure that every child can flourish in the digital era," the first lady told the audience.
"Innovation is wonderful," Trump said. "Our nations benefit from advancements in technology [by] saving lives, expanding access to knowledge, connecting people and, of course, safety."
She mentioned early childhood activities, such as playing marbles, flying paper airplanes and flying kites, as common childhood pastimes that can lead to future innovations.
"Great minds have turned marbles into microchips, paper airplanes into drones and kites into satellites," Trump said.

"Our next generation will use tech to revolutionize how we live, travel, design and connect."
The Fostering the Future Together initiative's objectives include:
Prioritizing children's personal development.Unifying efforts surrounding children, technology and education.Collaborating with the private sector to deliver access to education technology, including artificial intelligence, blockchain and robotics.Exchanging solutions to address the advantages and risks of AI.
The first lady will host the Fostering the Future Together initiative's first meeting at the White House in early 2026.
The initiative's members will be comprised of the spouses of heads of government and others, who will implement its decisions at the local levels in their respective nations.
