Opal Lee's 100th birthday celebration has landed a major guest.

Former first lady Michelle Obama will be at the Fort Worth Convention Center on Oct. 7 for the National Juneteenth Museum's Uniting Voices Speaker Series. The event will be in celebration of Lee's centennial, according to an announcement from the museum.

The two-hour event, titled "A Conversation with Michelle Obama," begins at 6 p.m. and is part of a day of events to celebrate "The Grandmother of Juneteenth." Before the talk, a "Clearing the Way" ceremony at 9 a.m. in Historic Southside Fort Worth will mark the start of construction at the future permanent site of the National Juneteenth Museum.

"Together, these moments celebrate Dr. Lee's extraordinary legacy while looking ahead to the future she has worked for decades to make possible," the announcement says.

Tickets for the talk will be available soon and open to the public, according to the release. The museum did not immediately respond to a request for more ticketing information.

The Uniting Voices Speaker Series began in 2023 and looks to foster "meaningful conversations about history, freedom, culture and our collective future," according to the museum. Past speakers include author Isabel Wilkerson, literary scholar and filmmaker Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson.
