During the Covid-19 pandemic, we were reminded of another catastrophe: the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. Photographer Andy Schwetz has taken eerie photos of the abandoned city of Pripyat, an area that will remain uninhabitable for more than 24,000 years.

This well-known swimming pool, "Azure," is one of the most famous structures in Pripyat. It's even appeared in video games such as Call of Duty “Modern Warfare.”

A pile of gas masks is a sinister reminder of what happened.
