McPike Mansion | Alton, Ill.

This mansion in Illinois has supposedly been haunted for decades. Back in the 1940s, boarders claimed to hear children playing, even when no children lived there. Years later, after the house had become dilapidated, passersby would still see ghostly faces in the windows.

Sweetwater | Florence, Ala.

People say a soldier in a coffin will sometimes appear in this southern mansion, and female visitors have reported mysteriously being locked into a specific room in the house.

Baker Mansion | Altoona, Penn.

A wedding dress of a former resident, which is on display at this historic home, has been known to shake violently. Strange voices are sometimes heard from the basement, and the ghost of a Civil War Soldier has been spotted on the grounds.

Peel Mansion | Bentonville, Ark.

Samuel Peel and his daughter Minnie Belle, the original residents, allegedly haunt this gorgeous home in Arkansas. While they don’t seem to be violent ghosts, Minnie Belle apparently plays the piano on occasion.

New London Ledge Lighthouse | Groton, Conn.

A spirit endearingly referred to as “Ernie” supposedly haunts this Connecticut lighthouse. Ernie has been known to create such mischief as turning off TVs, removing bedsheets and knocking on walls and doors.

Schweppe Mansion | Lake Forest, Ill.

This massive mansion in Illinois recently sold for upwards of $9 million, although who would buy it is beyond us. The original owner, Charles Schweppe, was found dead in the home in 1941, leaving behind a note that simply said, “I’ve been awake all night. It’s terrible.” People say old Charles still haunts the estate alongside some servants.

A weeping woman haunts this colonial home in the woods. The woman is awaiting her lover, who fell from his horse. Even spookier, there have been sightings of a fallen man on the front lawn.
