Buildings that Can’t be Real but Are

British sculpture Alex Chinneck does the impossible — floating mansions, melting buildings and facades zippered off.

This uniquely talented artist aims to transform cityscapes through his fusion of art, architecture and engineering. With whimsy, humor and immense optical illusions his installations both mess with your mind and fill you with awe.

Check out some of his most mind-bending designs and marvel at the intrinsically complex engineering that went into creating them. Support this incredibly talented artist by visiting his site at the link below.

Just casual building slippage.

This floating building may be reminiscent of the house from “Up,” only without balloons. We’re still not sure how he managed such an impressive feat. Chinneck says his goal is to make the installations appear effortless, even though they require impeccable planning and complex engineering.

Expectations are that a building will not liquify, but Chinneck challenges this thought with this realistic melting building.

One of his most well-known designs is this zippered facade. The white under the peeled back piece lights up brightly at night to provide an ethereal, fantasy illusion.
