Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic is working tirelessly to make commercial space flight a reality. The New Mexico-based spaceflight company plans to fly passengers to space in commercial rockets as soon as 2020. The flights will cost $250,000 (or maybe even more) and one of these expensive tickets will also get you access to an area referred to as the astronaut lounge, which was designed by London-based design studio Viewport.
While the second floor is reserved for mission control and office space, the first floor includes a restaurant, bar and, of course, multiple areas for lounging. It also doubles as office space for employees to use, incorporating additional meeting spaces and windows that are also dry erase boards. Aside from the interactive and instructional astronaut walkway, there’s very little technology built into the lounge. Viewport made a point of trying to work within the aesthetic of the surrounding New Mexico desert when designing the look and feel of the astronaut lounge.
