Jeff Bridges’ former estate is located in sunny Montecito, California, an affluent area located just south of the San Ynez Mountains. The 20-acre property certainly stands out in an area where homes usually occupy a space of three acres or less. Bridges and his wife Susan acquired the home from recording artist Kenny Loggins in 1994 for $7 million and sold it in 2017 for $16 million.
This breathtaking residence was designed by Santa Barbara, California architect Barry Berkus and built in 1988. The main house covers a massive 9,535 square feet and features a captivating combination of Old World refinement and modern comfort.
The large, open living and dining areas feature high ceilings with exposed, century-old wood beams. Hardwood floors help the entertaining areas retain their classic elegance, while the dining area’s floor is made of the most fitting of Tuscan-style tiles.
As expected, the master’s suite is a combination of the home’s overall Italian villa theme and elements that evoke a feeling of serenity. It’s spacious enough to fit a seating area and has its own exit to a balcony that provides a panoramic view of the ocean.
Complete with stone terraces, a lake-inspired swimming pool, a fruit tree orchard, and outdoor dining areas, the 20 acres of land are all put to good use. The main residence also houses a recording studio, private movie theater and an area called “the fort” — a quiet space with a hammock, swings, and benches. Adding privacy for guests, the property also includes two guesthouses.
