August 29, 1997, at 2:14 am — the date and time Skynet, the highly-advanced artificial intelligence system developed by Cyberdyne Systems, became fully aware in the 1997 blockbuster “Terminator 2.” Because of the Cyberdyne scientists’ repeated attempts to shut Skynet down, it started to view humanity as a threat to its existence, prompting the film’s looming nuclear holocaust referred to as Judgment Day.
In the film, Skynet has mastered time travel and plans to send a Terminator robot by the name of T-1000 from the year 2029, sent back in time to 1997 for the sole purpose of killing the leader of the future human resistance — 10-year-old John Connor. Luckily, 2029’s John Connor was well-prepared and sent a modified T-800 terminator, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, to protect his younger self from his approaching demise.
