Yellow is the color of the sun, and you definitely don’t want to simulate sunshine in your bedroom all night long. A vibrant yellow will not have the calming effect you’d be looking for in the place you rest your head at night.

Even though it might seem like dark colors would help you rest, experts say black is a bridge too far. Consider a softer gray for a lighter, yet restful, approach.

While purple is definitely statement-making, you should avoid this energetic color in rooms used for rest and relaxation. If you like the color palette from which purple comes, consider a soothing blue instead.
There are about a million shades of white, many of which would be fine in a bedroom, but you’ll want to avoid a cold, stark white that will feel glaringly unpeaceful. Look for something that verges on ivory or cream for a soothing feel.
