Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies is available for Canada's second Group B match at the 2026 World Cup, coach Jesse Marsch told reporters.

June 18 (UPI) -- Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies is available for Canada's second Group B match at the 2026 World Cup, coach Jesse Marsch told reporters.
Marsch made the announcement Wednesday night. Canada, the No. 32 team in the FIFA world rankings, will host No. 49 Qatar on Thursday in Vancouver.
"He's been in training this week, and he'll be available [Thursday], and we'll see how the match goes and then make a decision on how we would choose to use him," Marsch said.
Davies, 25, sustained a hamstring injury last month during a Bayern draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of a Champions League semifinal. The defender, known as one of the world's fastest players, totaled a goal and five assists over 23 games this season for Bayern.
Davies scored 15 times over his first 58 appearances for Canada. Those appearances included a run at the 2022 World Cup, where Davies scored Canada's first-ever World Cup goal.
He last played for Canada in March 2025, when he sustained an ACL tear.
The Canadians, who have never advanced past the group stage at a World Cup, earned a 1-1 draw with No. 63 Bosnia and Herzegovina in their Group B opener Friday in Toronto.
Marsch did not disclose if he would make any changes between his starting lineup in Canada's second game. He said Davies looked "really good" in training and plans to evaluate what type of game is being played before deciding how to use the defender.
"We've worked really well through this, and Alphonso is looking really good," Marsch said. "So it's just a matter of, OK, what kind of game is it, what kind of moment is it, and how do we feel Alphonso can contribute right now?
"But he's ready, he'll be available."
Each Group D team earned one point through the first wave of group stage matches. The Canadians will host the Qataris at 6 p.m. EDT Thursday at BC Place Vancouver.
They will take on Switzerland in their group stage finale Wednesday in Vancouver.
