In the country's 10 most-searched fall destinations, hotel rates aren't dropping. Instead, they're running about 0.7% higher than summer. Compare that to Expedia's broader U.S. data, where lodging across its top 10 domestic destinations is averaging a full 20% higher than summer rates. The wait for the shoulder-season discount hotel math simply doesn't hold anymore in the spots everyone already wants to go.

Chasing the Same Dates

That concentrated demand is exactly why prices in those cities aren't falling the way shoulder season used to guarantee.

Turkey and Menorca

Turkey's southeast coast and Spain's Menorca still deliver warm water, thin crowds and prices that actually drop once summer ends. Istanbul hotels run around €115 a night in the fall shoulder window, and both destinations hit their sweet spot in September and October when the sea is still warm, peak-season tourists are gone, and hotel and tour prices meaningfully lower than August. The old math still works, just not in the 10 cities everyone else is searching.

Book Earlier, Not Later

The shrinking discount window makes last-minute fall bookings riskier than they used to be.
