Sept. 16 (UPI) -- A spur-of-the moment purchase during a car wash led to an Illinois dad collecting a $1 million Powerball prize.
The man told Illinois Lottery officials he bought his ticket for the Aug. 9 Powerball drawing at the Exxon Mobil station on South York Road in Bensenville.
"I drove out to get my car washed at the Exxon Mobile, and decided to play the lottery at a new place," the player recalled. "I chose Powerball because I wanted to play for the most money."
The man said he was excited to tell his wife and three adult children when he realized one of his tickets matched all five numbers from the drawing, 7-14-23-24-60.
"When I checked the numbers, it sank in immediately that I had won," the father said. "I felt relieved, but my wife -- she thought I was lying. Then she said, 'We're going to Disney World!'"
The man's ticket earned him a $1 million prize -- plus an additional $4 prize from another ticket.
He said his winnings will help with education funds for his grown children, "and yes, Disney World is officially on the itinerary."
"A few years from now, we hope we're all less stressed and just happy," the winner said.
