"Game of Thrones" and "Bodyguard" actor Richard Madden will play the lead role in "Trauma," a medical action-thriller series coming to Paramount+.

Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Richard Madden has landed the lead role in the new series Trauma.

Paramount+ announced in a press release Wednesday that Madden, 40, will star in the new medical action-thriller from Lionsgate Television and 42 Management & Production.

Madden will play Jim Marchant, a Royal Marines medic-turned-ER doctor who must fight his way through the busy London hospital where he works after terrorists take the prime minister hostage during surgery.

"As he takes the hospital floor by floor, the balance of power shifts -- and the building becomes a deadly battle of strategy, nerve and survival," an official synopsis reads.

Trauma is written and created by Geoff Bussetil (Slow Horses) and directed by Daniel Syrkin (Tehran).

In a statement, Paramount+ head of originals Jane Wiseman lauded Trauma as "bold, global and propulsive storytelling."

"Geoff Bussetil has crafted a nail-biting thriller that puts our audience inside one impossible night with a hero played by the incredibly talented Richard Madden. We can't wait for viewers around the world to feel their pulse racing alongside his," she added.

Madden is known for playing Robb Stark on Game of Thrones, David Budd on Bodyguard and Mason Kane on Citadel.
