The Best Cities in the U.S. for Dog Owners

Pooches are family, and of course, we want the best for them. If you’re considering a move or a visit to a new city, it’s vital to pick a place that will welcome your best friend with open paws.

Swipe through to learn about cities that love your dog almost as much as you do.

Albuquerque boasts a chain of restaurants that offer pet-friendly patios featuring bowls of water and treats. A good number of apartments, hotels and shops are pet-friendly, as are many of the walking trails in and around the city.

Denver has a relatively high number of veterinarians, so dogs living in the Mile High City will always be well cared for. A large percentage of apartments in Denver welcome dogs, and you’ll find plenty of dog parks in the city, too.

Dog lovers enjoy a fairly high park-to-resident ratio in Madison, Wisconsin, and there are nine off-leash parks in the city. Many apartment buildings have pet play areas, not to mention grooming and washing stations. Water-loving pooches will love the area’s lakes.

Henderson, Nevada, offers dogs their very own Bark Park, which has a walking trail, an agility course, doggie runs and pooch drinking stations. Ninety percent of rental units welcome pets in Henderson, and many apartment complexes have pet-play areas as well.

With a mild climate and plenty of dog parks, San Francisco is among the best cities for pooches. The city’s walkability is also a benefit for dogs that don’t like being left behind when their owner goes out to run errands.

Tampa offers numerous dog parks to choose from, and water-loving canines will love visits to any of the dog-friendly beaches in the Tampa area. Plenty of restaurants welcome dogs, and you’ll find plenty of apartments that welcome dogs, and hotels, too, if you’re visiting with Fido.

You’ll find more than 30 off-leash parks in Portland, and there are numerous dog-friendly restaurants in Oregon’s biggest city, too. Plenty of vets are available to take care of your pooch, and Portland’s weather is fairly mild—so lots of comfortable days for long walks.
