Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Former President Barack Obama on Saturday criticized his successor for the "chaos and cruelty" of the current administration, characterizing Donald Trump's second term as filled with "corruption and incompetence."
Stumping for Democrats in Ohio, Obama said Trump's actions are "directly responsible for rising costs."
"The current president chose to make a series of bad decisions," Obama told a crowd in Cleveland. "Most importantly, he decided to start an unnecessary war that nobody asked for, nobody voted for."
Obama is scheduled for a series of rallies to support Democrats as they attempt to gain control of Congress in November's midterms elections.
"After two years of chaos and cruelty and corruption and incompetence, the likes of which we have not seen in modern times, you get the chance to say, 'Enough's enough. We are going to change right here in Ohio,'" he added.
The former president said Trump is more focused on renovation projects than governing the nation. "
"Does anybody really think this guy in the White House right now is spending all that time thinking about these issues?" Obama said."I mean, I don't know if you noticed, but he seems very focused on home renovation."
"He's got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened the Cheesecake Factory," he added. "He's clearly not focused on lower prices for you."
On Saturday, Trump was non-committal when asked by reporters in Florida about the Iran war.
"I've done it very effectively and I may have to finish it off, or maybe they'll make a deal, but I'm not sure," he said. "Either way, we win."
