NEW YORK — Ex-New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is reportedly pumping $80 million into Democratic campaigns in a last-minute bid to help boost their chances of retaking Congress from President Donald Trump’s Republicans in the forthcoming midterm elections.

The billionaire media mogul has already forked over a big chunk of the cash, which could help resurgent Democrats fend off an even bigger eleventh-hour splurge from Trump’s MAGA Inc. and other GOP megadonors like world’s richest man Elon Musk, the New York Times reported Tuesday.

“He is of the view that resources matter in campaigns,” Howard Wolfson, a top Bloomberg aide, told the Times, referring to Bloomberg.

“Obviously the scale of his participation, given his resources and his means, is greater than other people’s financially,” Wolfson added. “But other people are participating in different ways.”

Bloomberg, 84, served three terms in City Hall as a moderate Republican, and ran an unsuccessful Democratic presidential primary race in 2020.

The lion’s share of Bloomberg cash fire hose is going to groups working to create as large as possible a majority in the House of Representatives for Democrats. The donations include $50 million to a liberal gun-safety advocacy group Bloomberg founded, the Times reported, and $15 million to House Majority PAC, a spokesman for that group told the Daily News.

HMP is controlled by Brooklyn Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, who would become the first Black Speaker of the House if Democrats win the majority as most pundits expect.

Bloomberg is hoping to replicate his success in using targeted donations to flip seats in the 2018 midterms, when Democrats made outsized gains in Trump’s first term.

Jeffries said Bloomberg’s largesse would help work the same magic in 2026, when Democrats are in a similarly strong political position with Trump’s approval ratings at historic lows.

“The extraordinary support from Mayor Bloomberg will once again help Democrats flip the House so we can decisively address the affordability crisis and clean up corruption in Washington,” Jeffries said in a statement provided to the News.

Democrats need to flip just a handful of GOP-held seats to overturn the GOP’s current five-seat edge. Most pundits from across the political spectrum consider that to be a virtual done deal.

Sabato’s Crystal Ball, a non-partisan group affiliated with the University of Virginia, Tuesday shifted 28 House races in Democrats’ direction. It now rates 220 as leaning to Democratic or better, meaning Jeffries would be assured of a majority even if Democrats lost all of the dozen or so toss-up races.

The Senate is considered a tougher lift for Democrats, who likely need to flip four GOP-held seats to retake control, including at least two solid red states like Alaska, Texas, Ohio, Iowa and Kansas.
