Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy and charged him in connection with a mass shooting Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla., that left 12 people injured.

Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy and charged him in connection with a mass shooting over the weekend in Tallahassee, Fla., that left 12 people injured.

The City of Tallahassee Police Department said in a social media post Monday that officers arrested Anthony Rivers III on Sunday after the shooting Saturday night near a football stadium on homecoming weekend for Florida A&M University.

Rivers faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent in connection with the shooting. Gunshots injured 11 people, including six juveniles, while another person injured their ankle while fleeing, CNN reported.

Of those injured by gunfire, five had been released from the hospital as of Sunday. Of the other six, one was in critical condition.

Rivers was charged as an adult, State Attorney Jack Campbell told CNN. In a detention hearing Monday, a judge ordered that Rivers remain in custody pending arraignment.

The Tallahassee Police Department said Monday that its preliminary findings "indicate a physical altercation occurred before shots were fired" and that detectives believe none of the victims were the intended target of the shots.

"What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families," said Police Chief Lawrence Revell.

"While this arrest marks asignificant step forward, our work is far from over," Revell said. "We remain committed toholding those responsible accountable and getting answers for every familyimpacted by this tragedy."

Revell said more arrests are possible. The judge granted the police department's request to seal the arrest warrant and affidavit.

FAMU President Marva Johnson said in a social media post that the university is providing its full assistance to the police department and condemned the "senseless and despicable violence" of Saturday.

"Our pride, our identity and our future will not be defined by the challenges we face, but how we respond to them together," she said.

The Guardian reported that the shooting was among five mass shootings -- those with four or more people injured or killed -- over the weekend, according to the Gun Violence Archive. It was the 386th one in the United States thus far in 2026.
