Mexican authorities arrested Ivan Martin "N," accused of being a co-perpetrator in the 2025 killing of influencer and model Valeria Márquez.

Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Mexican authorities arrested Ivan Martin "N," accused of being a co-perpetrator in the 2025 killing of influencer and model Valeria Márquez -- a high-profile femicide that drew international attention after she was shot while livestreaming on TikTok, prosecutors said.

The arrest marks the latest development in a case that shocked Mexico and sparked renewed debate over gender-based violence, social media exposure and organized crime.

Márquez, 23, was a beauty influencer and entrepreneur with hundreds of thousands of followers across social media. She was killed May 13, 2025, while broadcasting live from Blossom The Beauty Lounge, the beauty salon she owned in the Guadalajara suburb of Zapopan.

Video of the attack spread widely online after a gunman entered the salon and opened fire, killing Márquez at the scene.

The Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office said Iván Martín "N" was arrested Saturday during an operation carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Crimes Against Women, Children and Adolescents, with support from the Mexican Army and National Guard.

Prosecutors said the suspect allegedly participated before, during and after the killing. Investigators believe those involved fled using a motorcycle and a white vehicle following the attack.

Authorities also executed a search warrant at a residence in the San Juan de Ocotán neighborhood of Zapopan, where they seized two firearms, mobile phones and identification documents as part of the investigation, according to Grupo Animal Mexico.

The arrest comes days after Mexican authorities captured Ramón Ángel "N," known as "R1," whom officials identify as the leader of Los Rs, a criminal cell linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

On Friday, Mexican Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch said investigators believe the killing was ordered by Ricardo Ruiz Velasco, known as "El Doble R" or "RR," the son of R1.

"The son of R1 had a romantic relationship with Valeria. He had threatened her on several occasions, and everything indicates -- this will be proven -- that he asked his father, R1, to carry out the femicide," García Harfuch said during President Claudia Sheinbaum's daily news conference.

García Harfuch said the investigation into Márquez's killing remains separate from the case involving the murder of former Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo, but that R1's arrest provided new leads in the influencer's case.

He added that Ricardo Ruiz Velasco remains a fugitive and is being sought by Mexican authorities.

Mexican prosecutors have not announced formal charges against Iván Martín "N" beyond identifying him as the alleged co-perpetrator in the ongoing investigation.
