Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow has signed on to star in and executive produce the A24-produced Netflix drama, The Apology.

Paltrow will play Evelyn, a woman who learns the man who just confessed to murdering her son 18 years prior, might get off with a reduced sentence.

No casting has been announced yet for the role of her husband, Caleb, or the unnamed killer.

Thomas Vinterberg will direct and executive produce the series, which has already gotten a two-season order.

This marks Paltrow's first leading role in a TV series after appearing on Glee and The Politician. Her film credits include Marty Supreme, Iron Man, Shakespeare in Love, Sliding Doors, The Pallbearer, Bounce, The Royal Tenenbaums and Possession.
