6 Fresh and Creative Lunch Box Ideas

Pretty much everyone likes a good PB&J, but eating the same thing for lunch day after day can get boring. When it comes to school lunches, consider mixing it up a bit, offering your kids something new and different.

Swipe through to get creative ideas for school lunches.

Charcuterie

Slices of salami, cheese cubes, grapes—put together a plastic container full of little bits and bobs for your youngsters and they will love you for it. Other options include carrot sticks, ham slices, nuts, crackers or olives. You can use one of those fancy bento boxes or not.

Peanut Butter, Banana and Granola

Spread creamy peanut butter (assuming it’s permitted at your kids’ school) onto a tortilla. Distribute banana chunks on top of the peanut butter, and then sprinkle granola over. Wrap it into a roll and enjoy!

String Cheese Rollup

Wrap a piece of string cheese in prosciutto, ham, turkey—whatever your kids like. Secure it with a toothpick. That’s it! Or, add lettuce or a tortilla or anything else that sounds yummy.

Sliders

Ok, they’re just small sandwiches but they’re definitely more fun than a regular sandwich and those Hawaiian rolls are so delicious! Maybe fry up some bacon the night before and add that to the sandwiches, just for a kick of something special.

Chicken in Pita

Shred up the leftovers form last night's chicken dinner, mix the shredded chicken with ranch dressing and stuff into a sliced-open pita. Add whatever veggies your kid will eat—tomatoes, cucumbers or lettuce, for example. Be sure to include an ice pack in your child’s lunch box.

Mac and Cheese Muffins

Whip up some boxed mac and cheese. Combine with diced ham, ¼ cup of bread crumbs and two beaten eggs. Spoon into a greased muffin tin. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes. Refrigerate, and then pack into the lunch box with an ice pack in the morning. They’re delicious cold.
