Swipe through for 10 tips to make your Halloween party amazing.

Plan ahead for a successful gathering. A few months out, start setting aside money—a bit at a time—to fund your party. Scan social media for ideas and gather them all in one place. In early September, get specific about how you’ll decorate and the activities you’ll offer and make lists of what you’ll need. In early October, make a guest list, and then, plan the menu and develop a grocery list. Most importantly, don't forget to plan your costume!
These dismembered-finger snacks will make sure you see a lot of disgusted facial expressions from party guests. Melt some baking chocolate and add green food coloring, then dip thick pretzel sticks in the chocolate. Use a round toothpick to add the knuckles. Finish off your gory appetizers with blanched almonds that are colored with black gel dye.

What kind of activities will you offer your guests? Try hosting a costume contest, a pumpkin-carving contest or maybe an old classic—bobbing for apples. Also consider ring toss over a witch’s hat or a pumpkin piñata.

Spooky lighting is an important part of a successful Halloween party. Turn the lights down low and decorate with themed string lights and LED candles. Don’t make it so dark that the party area becomes hazardous, especially if there will be little ones running around.

Purchase a few plastic witches’ cauldrons and place them around the party space. Fill them with candy, party favors or Halloween punch.

Welcome your guests with a cleverly carved jack-o’-lantern placed on the front porch. Carve several other pumpkins to place around the entertaining space, but consider using LED candles instead of real ones, for safety’s sake.
To make a Halloween punch that’s perfect for people of all ages, simply combine 64 ounces of cranberry juice, 64 ounces of apple juice or apple cider and 2 liters of ginger ale. Toss in some gummy worms or candy eyeballs for the gross factor, and add a few chunks of dry ice for the fog effect! Serve in a cauldron or in a large, hollowed-out pumpkin.

Tuck mini plastic skulls in nooks and crannies, indoors or out, and invite youngsters to search for them. They can collect them in plastic pumpkin pails or in paper bags they’ve decorated.

Hot dog mummies will be a conversation piece. Unroll crescent dough and separate into rectangles, pressing each of the two triangles together. Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into strips. Wrap around hot dogs in a haphazard, bandage sort of way. Bake at 375º for 15 minutes or so. Use two dots of mustard to “adhere” candy eyes, which you can find at craft stores, Amazon or Target.

Add these creepy specimen jars to your party decor. Find some Mason jars, or whatever glass containers you have, and source some plastic bugs. Glue some inexpensive waterproof lights to the inside of the jars’ lids. In a separate container, mix up a green solution — water and just a couple of drops of green acrylic paint. Put the bugs and green water in the jars and turn on the lights.
