Rapper Lizzo Challenges Body Standards

Rapper Lizzo, born Melissa Viviane Jefferson, has seen a relatively rapid rise to fame. After moving from Houston, Texas to Minneapolis, Minnesota to pursue her singing career, she released her debut album in 2013 and now prepares to embark on her first personal tour.

These days, Lizzo uses her platform to advocate for body positivity and diversity, proving that you can be beautiful no matter what your size.

Check out this selection of stunning images from her Instagram and don’t forget to follow her there at @lizzobeeating.

Growing up playing the flute and listening to classical music, Lizzo has continued to hone her musical skills, lending a unique sound to her music. Here, she announces her upcoming album via a custom made sweatshirt.

To promote inclusivity, Lizzo only uses plus-size dancers in her performances.

Lizzo credits the LGBTQ community for lifting her up and getting her to where she is now. She says her movement is about inclusion — no matter who you are or what group you may belong to — she doesn’t believe in boxes anyway. It’s clear she intends to evoke this same sense of togetherness not only in her daily life but through her performances as well.
