The San Diego Zoo announced the birth of a female hamadryas baboon named Makeda.

July 21 (UPI) -- The San Diego Zoo announced the birth of a female hamadryas baboon named Makeda.

The zoo said Makeda, who shares her royal name with the Queen of Sheba, was born to mother Anakin and father Lex on June 25, and is doing well under the attentive care of her parents.

"For the first three weeks of its life, an infant will hold onto its mother by gripping her hair as she moves around," the zoo said in a news release. "Hamadryas baboon infants have pink skin and black hair until they are one year old, at which point their hair turns brown and resembles that of the adults."

Makeda can now be viewed by the public at the African Rocks exhibit, where she has started to explore and play on her own.
