Firefighters, animal control officers and public works employees teamed up in North Carolina to rescue a fawn found trapped in a storm drain.

Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Firefighters, animal control officers and public works employees teamed up in North Carolina to rescue a fawn found trapped in a storm drain.

The Cary Fire Department said the fawn is believed to have been trapped in the drain for several days before crews responded alongside Cary Animal Control, Wake County Animal Control and Town of Cary Public Works personnel to conduct a rescue.

The rescuers set up a tripod above the drain opening and ventured down to fit the baby deer with a harness so it could be hoisted back to the surface.

Animal control took the fawn to Holly's Nest Wildlife Rescue for veterinary care and rehabilitation.

The Town of Cary thanked the rescuers on social media.

"Not all heroes wear capes; some wear waders! Thank you to everyone who helped save this sweet fawn," officials wrote.
