How to Use Vinegar to Get Rid of Wasps

Wasps often make their nests in the most inconvenient places – under the eaves right at your front door, for example. Luckily, there’s a natural remedy that will banish those stinging beasts. The strong acidity of vinegar is a strong repellent that’s safer than potentially dangerous chemicals.

Swipe through to learn how to use vinegar to banish wasps.

Find the Nest

If you see wasps flying around your yard, you’ll want to first find their nest. Different types of wasps build nests in trees, or under the eaves of your house. You can search around the yard, or carefully follow one to see if it leads you to its nest.

Vinegar Solution

Mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle that has a stream-spray option. For best results, add a few drops of dishwashing liquid.

Protect Yourself

Before you go out to do battle, don protective gear. You’ll want to wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, closed-toe shoes and gloves. If you happen to have a beekeeper’s helmet with netting lying around, put that on, too.

Plan an Escape Route

When you’ve identified the nest you want to target, figure out the escape route you’ll take after you’ve sprayed the nest, because the wasps may be very angry. Clear out anything that might be in your way as you quickly beat a retreat. You don’t want to trip over patio furniture or potted plants, for example.

Soak the Nest

Spray a steady stream of the vinegar mixture into the wasps’ nest, thoroughly soaking the nest and any wasps you see. Be quick and efficient, because they’re going to get mad and you need to get out of there ASAP.

Repetition

You might not get all the wasps the first go-round. Wait a few days and then repeat your spraying to try to get the remainder of the hive.
