Brent crude oil prices were up more than 5% on Thursday and West Texas Intermediate continues to climb as the White House mulls resuming Iran strikes.

Oct. 8 (UPI) -- The price of Brent crude oil was up more than 5% on Thursday morning and West Texas Intermediate continues its climb toward $100 per barrel with reports that the White House is considering more military strikes on Iran.
Brent Crude oil, the international benchmark, reached $105 per barrel on Thursday morning. West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. benchmark, rose to more than $92 per barrel.
The price hike follows a greater slowdown of oil tankers on the Strait of Hormuz. Seven tankers trekked through the strait on Tuesday, less than half of the seven-day average prior. It was the slowest day of transporting oil on the strait since July 23.
Iran has continued to exercise control over the Strait of Hormuz, launching a record number of attacks on commercial ships in recent weeks. Ten oil tankers were hit during the week of Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, the most recorded in a single week during the war.
Reporting by the Atlantic on Wednesday said that President Donald Trump and his administration is considering taking more military actions against Iran ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms. There are greater expectations that talks of more strikes will heat up after the elections.
The White House told The Hill that the United States is "in a very strong position with control of the Strait of Hormuz and the Iranian economy collapsing," and that "all options" are available for Trump to launch more strikes on Iran.
