Police responded in Texas when an estate sale shopper going through their purchases discovered a box filled with live grenades from World War II.

Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Police responded in Texas when an estate sale shopper going through their purchases discovered a box was filled with live grenades dating from World War II.

The Austin Police Association said on social media that officers responded to the "unusual call" on Monday when "a resident bought some boxes at an estate sale and, while going through them, found what appeared to be World War II-era grenades."

The Austin Police Department's bomb squad arrived on the scene and confirmed the box contained live and active grenades.

"Handling 80-year-old explosives with unknown stability is dangerous, precise work," the post said.

Police said the grenades were safely seized and removed from the scene.

"Not your typical estate sale find," officials wrote.
