SEATTLE — The Seahawks are not expected to sign veteran running back Joe Mixon after he underwent a physical Monday, The Seattle Times has confirmed.
ESPN originally reported Tuesday that the team would not sign Mixon.
The Seahawks brought Mixon, a two-time Pro Bowl running back in a career dating to 2017, in for a workout on Monday and had reached an agreement to sign him to a deal, pending the results of his physicals. Those tests were expected to include an MRI. After reviewing the tests the Seahawks opted not to sign him.
Mixon, 30, missed all of last season with a foot injury suffered before the start of the 2025 season. He was released by Houston after the season and became a free agent.
While at least one national report Monday said the Seahawks “are signing” Mixon, the team had made clear that he still had to undergo physicals before anything would be official.
“Joe worked out this morning and is going through the process right now of whatever else it entails of how the process goes,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Monday afternoon.
It had been expected he would sign to the Seahawks’ practice squad assuming he passed his physical as the team seeks to add depth to its running back corps with first-round pick Jadarian Price on injured reserve with a chest injury. Price has to sit out at least three more games.
Seahawks sign Henry
The Seahawks made another running back move official Tuesday, signing Robert Henry Jr. off Washington’s practice squad to their 53-man roster. News broke Monday the Seahawks planned to sign him.
He played the last three years at the University of Texas-San Antonio and finished the 2025 season with 1,045 yards and an average of 6.9 per rush.
He signed with the Commanders as undrafted free agent and has not played in a game this season.
To make room on the 53-man roster, the Seahawks waived safety A.J. Finley.
Note
Running back Jacardia Wright was placed on the practice squad injured reserve with a foot injury.
