Ideas for Non-alcoholic Celebratory Drinks

Everyone loves to celebrate during the holiday season. But for any of a number of reasons, some folks may prefer to celebrate without alcohol. There are plenty of delicious beverages that let non-drinkers make merry without the worry of a splitting headache the next day.

Swipe through to get ideas for non-alcoholic holiday mocktails.

Eggnog

Eggnog is a holiday favorite, of course. If there’s a big punchbowl of spiked nog on offer at your friend’s soiree, pull the hostess aside and ask her if she has some extra eggnog tucked away in the fridge. Odds are, she’ll be happy to pull some out for you.

Ginger Beer

If everyone’s drinking beer at the gathering, ask the bartender for a ginger beer, or bring your own 6-pack to a house party. You can also make your own with a few simple ingredients—you’ll find plenty of recipes online.

Sparkling Apple Cider

When the champagne comes out, turn to sparkling cider. Available in several flavors, sparkling cider offers the same effervescence as sparkling wine. And it toasts the holidays the same!

Mulled “Wine” Mocktail

For some folks, mulled wine is a holiday tradition not to be missed. Make a mocktail version with pomegranate or cranberry juice, cloves, cinnamon sticks and star anise. Simply warm the ingredients in a pot on the stove. Pour yourself a mug full and add a slice of fresh orange to top it off.

Mimosa

Invited to Christmas brunch? Bring along a bottle of alcohol-free brut-style sparkling wine. Mix it with orange juice, and voila! You have a delicious mimosa that fits right in with the other ones.

Not Toddy

When a hot toddy seems like the perfect antidote for winter’s wrath, invite the neighbors over and make a non-alcoholic version with hot tea or warm apple cider, honey, lemon juice, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Garnish with a slice of lemon, if you like.

Famous Mocktails

You can always ask the bartender at the holiday gathering for one of the classic mocktails. Shirley Temple, Arnold Palmer and Roy Rogers are among the most well-known. You can also request a Virgin Mary—simply a Bloody Mary without the booze.
