Undoubtedly, Sabrina is one of the WNBA’s sharpest shooters ever — she got close to taking down Steph Curry in a 3-point shooting contest at the NBA All-star game. To best aid her game the Sabrina 2 was built for speed and quickness, with a mass that’s 28 grams less than the previous model.
This sneaker launches alongside a Sabrina 2 apparel collection, similar to last year, but upgraded for looks and performance. In her first year as a Nike signature athlete, she became the first player to release a unisex shoe. The Sabrina 1 was extremely popular on the 2023 AAU basketball circuit for both boys and girls teams, as younger players love how quick and responsive it is.
Nike and Sabrina’s partnership revolves around a performance-first attitude. The Nike Sabrina 2 features a very responsive cushioning setup that features a plush Cushlon 3.0 foam midsole surrounded by a firmer type of all-around Cushlon foam. For some extra responsiveness, there’s a forefoot Zoom Air unit and a new forefoot band system that looks the foot into place.
Every signature athlete with a sneaker has their own personal logo and branding. Sabrina’s ”S” logo is an ambigram that most obviously is the first letter of her name, but when turned sideways resembles a pair of eyes. This is a definite nod to Sabrina’s court vision — which is also the name of this cool purple and black color way.
While developing signature shoes, Nike receives varying levels of input from its signature athletes. For the Sabrina 2, Nike worked closely with Sabrina to meet her needs, but also used women-specific research, data and insights, and some input from male players that wore the last model.
Ahead of an early season game against the Indiana Fever, Sabrina hit the tunnel with a pair of Nike Sabrina 2’s in hand. The New York Liberty won that game by 11, and Sabrina has worn the Nike Sabrina 2 in every game since. For fans and players alike anticipating the sneaker’s release, it’s been set at June 25, 2024 with additional color ways dropping throughout the rest of the year.
