Bugatti Centodieci: The 110-year Celebration Model

French auto manufacturer Bugatti celebrated 110 years in existence in 2019 with a model that combines style cues from the past and present. It dubbed this one-of-a-kind model the Centodieci, which means “110” in Italian.

During the 1980s, Italian entrepreneur Romano Artioli purchased the rights to the Bugatti brand and assembled a team to create what would be named the EB110. He was the first to make a successful attempt at reviving the brand since the death of founder Ettore Bugatti in 1947. Design cues from the EB110 are featured on the body of the new Centodieci.

When asked about his strategy in designing the car, Bugatti’s head of design, Frank Heyl said, “This was our main concern, not being retro... The Centodieci starts low to the ground and ends higher in the rear end, a stance that connects it to the EB110 as being aggressively moving forward, and to the fashion of Nineties supercars, with a ‘wedge’ shape that was popular then. But it does it in a fresh, modern way.”

The striking Centodieci is built on the same platform as the Chiron, one of Bugatti’s most popular models. Mechanically speaking, it’s a monster: The huge 16-cylinder engine puts out a mind-blowing 1,600 horsepower.

The Centodieci will be one of those models you’ll probably have to catch at an auction a few years down the road. Bugatti only plans to produce 10 of the vehicles, and believe or not they've all been sold. The buyers can expect to see their freshly-minted cars in 2022.
