The woman who claimed that rapper Jay-Z raped her when she was 13 has recanted the allegation. She claims her lawyers filed the suit without her.

Sept. 25 (UPI) -- The woman who claimed that rapper Jay-Z raped her when she was 13 has recanted the allegation.

The woman, known in the case as Jane Doe, filed suit in 2024 against Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, claiming she was drugged and raped by him and Sean "Diddy" Combs at a party after the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000.

Combs and Carter denied the allegation, and the woman dropped the lawsuit last year. Carter then countersued her and her lawyers.

Carter's lawyer said the description of events created an "impossible timeline."

"Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter never raped me. I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter never engaged in any inappropriate conduct toward me whatsoever," Doe wrote in a document filed in the case Thursday.

"My claims that Mr. Carter and Mr. Combs raped me while a third celebrity, [name redacted] watched are false. There is no truth to any of my claims against Mr. Carter," she said.

"I understand my false accusations have caused Mr. Carter immense pain, suffering and damage that can never be fully undone."

She added that she has not received any money from Carter or anyone acting on his behalf, and had not been paid to recant.

Doe has been removed from Carter's lawsuit, though he is still pursuing a claim against her lawyers, led by Tony Buzbee.

Carter's lawyers claim Doe's former lawyers should have known her allegations were "contradicted by publicly available information, internally inconsistent and unsupported by any credible story or investigation."

Carter had strongly denied the accusation. He called it a "blackmail attempt" and called the allegations "frivolous, fictitious and appalling allegations," the BBC reported.

In 2025, when Doe dropped her case, Jay-Z said, "The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed." Carter is married to singer Beyoncé.

Buzbee told Rolling Stone that he hadn't seen that Doe recanted.

"We have multiple lawyers (at least four) who dealt with Ms. Doe long before she met me. She gave the exact same story to each. If for some reason now she is claiming she lied to us and the court, that's new information."

Doe, who is from Alabama, said she saw an ad on Facebook in October 2024 looking for people who may have sexual assault accusations against Combs.

"The ad triggered memories of being raped when I was 13 years old," she said.

Doe said a law firm contacted her, but they didn't show her a draft of the suit with her allegations before it was filed in October 2024.

She also said Buzbee and the other lawyers filed it, "without conducting any independent investigation, background inquiry or due diligence, and without obtaining any corroboration of the allegations."

Buzbee also represents several people who have made claims against Combs.

Doe's current lawyer, James Blair Newman Jr., said: "Our client maintains that she was a victim of sexual assault, but she was entirely mistaken in her allegations identifying Mr. Carter."

Combs was convicted of two prostitution charges on July 2, 2025, by a jury that also acquitted him of more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. He is now serving a four-year prison sentence.
