East Coast Destinations You Simply Must Visit

For travelers looking for a destination on the United States east coast, there are plenty of great options in big cities and tiny towns. Whether you’re into history, the arts, chilling at the beach, hiking, eating delicious food or all of the above, you surely find a great place to visit on this list.

Continue for eight incredible east coast destinations you should visit soon.

New York City

The Big Apple beckons with thousands of activities and attractions. Visit the famous Statue of Liberty, go shopping on Fifth Avenue, walk along the High Line or spend some time in the lively Times Square. Ney York is famous for its theater scene, too, so take in a show, followed by late-night eats at any of the city’s incredible restaurants.

Bar Harbor, Maine

Bar Harbor is a popular resort area that serves as the gateway to Acadia National Park, a 50,000-acre park with 60 miles of coastline, 33 miles of scenic roads and more than 150 miles of hiking trails. It's a charming town where visitors enjoy shopping and eating some of the best lobster in the world after days of kayaking, bird watching and whale watching.

Washington D.C.

Hundreds of museums, monuments, memorials, historic sites and buildings tell the story of the United States' inception and the people who built it. Don’t miss these highlights: the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and the Library of Congress. Create an itinerary before you go as many attractions require advance planning.

Philadelphia

For another dose of American history, visit Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where you'll find Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Get some exercise in by scrambling up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, like Sylvester Stallone’s run in the 1976 film Rocky. At the end of a busy day, enjoy a famous Philly cheesesteak sandwich.

White Mountains, New Hampshire

Hikers and campers enjoy breathtaking scenery in the summer months, while skiers and snowboarders appreciate plenty of winter snowfall. You can also drive to the top of Mt. Washington, the tallest mountain in the northeast United States.

Asheville, North Carolina

Further south, Asheville, North Carolina, is beloved for its lively arts scene, evident in the many art galleries you’ll find around town. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville also features fascinating historic architecture, including the stunning Basilica of Saint Lawrence. Visitors should make sure to visit the Biltmore Estate – a historic estate, museum and garden.

Vermont

There’s plenty to love about the tiny state of Vermont. Visitors will find forests perfect for hiking, beautiful waterways, covered bridges, rich maple syrup, delicious apple pie, quaint towns and magnificent fall foliage. Friendly hosts at historic B&Bs welcome visitors with open arms.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Cape Cod is about as New England as a city can get. The area is known for its distinctive architecture, thriving arts scene, incredible seafood, and plentiful beaches. Also, consider taking the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard – the summer playground of the rich and famous.
