Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Cincinnati Bengals Pro Bowl quarterback Joe Burrow requires turf toe surgery of his left foot and is out indefinitely, coach Zac Taylor told reporters Monday.
"It looks like he is going to need surgery," Taylor said of Burrow. "We are still working through all the details of that, what that timeline is going to look like. So that's really all the information I have today."
Taylor did not yet know a surgery date for Burrow and said he has not made a determination whether he will be placed on injured reserve, which would trigger an automatic absence of at least four games. Burrow is gathering additional opinions.
"I'm not trying to just be vague with the timeline that I'm unsure of," Taylor said. "I know I've stuck my foot in my mouth in the past by giving that. We will get the surgery date nailed down if he is going to do that and move forward with all the information we have."

Taylor said he did not want to "say anything that I can't fully answer" when asked if Burrow would return this season. Veteran backup Jake Browning is in line to start in Burrow's absence, but Taylor said the Bengals are interested in adding depth at quarterback.
"I feel very confident in Jake," Taylor said of Browning. "I think Jake has proven his caliber in this league and he can help us win football games and contend for all the things we want to contend for.
"With that being said, we are always open to bringing in other people at this point. ... I'm sure we will turn over a lot of rocks trying to find another guy."
Burrow sustained the injury in the second quarter of the Bengals' 31-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday in Cincinnati.
Browning completed 21 of 32 passes for 241 yards, two scores and three interceptions in relief of Burrow. He also ran for a 1-yard score. The third-year quarterback completed 70.4% of his throws for 1,936 yards, 12 scores and seven interceptions in 2023 when he started seven games in place of an injured Burrow.
"We have a ton of confidence in Jake," Taylor said. "He proved that yesterday against what I think people are going to see was a really good football team. ... The point that you turn to now is, I'm excited for Jake to go out there and play. He has earned the right to be in the spotlight. Guys will rally behind him and we'll get Jake's best."
...
Browning and Burrow are the only two quarterbacks on the Bengals' roster. Veteran quarterback Brett Rypien is on the Bengals' practice squad.
Burrow, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, missed 12 games through his first five seasons due to injuries, including knee, wrist and finger ailments.
The Bengals (2-0) will play the Minnesota Vikings (1-1) at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday in Minneapolis. The Vikings allowed the fifth-fewest passing yards and fewest passing touchdowns through two weeks. They allowed the third-most rushing yards.
