A visit to Costa Rica isn’t complete without a visit to Cahuita National Park. This park protects the nation’s coral reefs, and the snorkeling is incredible. Make time to explore the forests, where you’ll find energetic monkeys, colorful birds, slow sloths, and a wide variety of interesting reptiles.

Ciudad Perdida—”Lost City”— is located near the city of Santa Marta in northern Colombia. Now an archaeological treasure, Ciudad Perdia was a city believed to have been founded around 800 A.D. Getting there requires quite a trek, but for the adventurous, the Lost City is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Spokane, Washington, a riverfront city, has plenty to offer, including delicious food, incredible parks featuring beautiful gardens, a vibrant arts community and miles of hiking trails. Don’t miss the loud and splashy Spokane Falls, an urban dam and collection of waterfalls that serve as the centerpiece of the city.

Machu Picchu is a more well-known lost city. About 50 miles from Cusco, Peru, the 600-year-old Incan site is accessible by train and bus. Visiting this UNESCO World Heritage site requires a tour guide, and it’s smart to make reservations well in advance.

Miami is a high-energy melting pot of cultures and, overall a lot of fun. If you’re looking for art, great music, incredible food, beautiful beaches, you’ll find it in Miami. Hot spots you won’t want to miss include South Beach, the Art Deco district, Calle Ocho, Miami Beach, Coral Gables and Little Havana.

If sun and sand are on your mind, check out the San Blas Islands off the northern coast of Panama. Largely void of tourists, the islands are everything you’d expect from Caribbean islands, except less crowded and more laid back. In addition to water activities, don’t miss the islands’ incredible flora and fauna.

In Newfoundland, Canada, you’ll find Gros Morne National Park — 700 square miles of incredible hiking areas where you’ll get a rare look at the Earth’s mantle that was created millions of years ago and pushed past the Earth’s surface. Take a boat ride on Western Brook pond and see cascading waterfalls 2,000 feet tall.
